A massive load of criticism followed the failed attempt of the assassination of the governor of Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom by unknown gunmen who were later suspected to be Fulani militia around Tyo-Mu-Abetse-Gboko Road, in Makurdi Local Council of Benue state.
With regards to this, the Rivers State Governor, Governor Nyesom Wike demands that the FG is to be held responsible for it should the assassination of the Benue State Governor, Governor Ortom be successful.
“If you kill Ortom, then be prepared to bury Nigeria. If anything happens to Governor Ortom, the Federal Government will be held responsible and they should be prepared that there will be no more Nigeria.”The Special Assistant to the Governor, Kelvin Ebiri quotes Governor Wike

The incident occurred around 10 and 11 am Saturday the 21st of March, 2021 when Ortom was heading back from a farm inspection around the place who then saw militia herders of about 15 in number all dressed in black and ambushing his convoy with multiple gunshots.
“I thank God for my security men who repelled the attackers. I ran for more than one and a half kilometres without stopping.”Governor Ortom
Ortom then later made a vow to never get intimidated even with the attack.
“My life is in the hands of God and no Fulani militia has the power to take it without His permission… I am sending a petition to the President and the security chiefs against Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, as allowing their leaders to walk freely with security personnel attached to them is not in the country’s best interest.”The Governor concluded
The party called on the police was called to commence immediate investigation on the case and hopefully get to the bottom of the case to reveal the culprits and let justice take its toll.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Yawe, the National Publicity Secretary of ACF, said:
“We thank God that Governor Ortom escaped the attack by armed bandits. Most of the attacks and killings in Benue State are purely as a result of politics... “We should not always blame what is going on in Benue State on Fulani herdsmen alone. In most cases, the Tivs also have the share of the blame of attacks and other crimes committed in the state…”
ACF spokesman called onto Governor Ortom to provide a solution to the incessant attacks and killings of the indigenous natives in Benue state and not every time put the blame on the Fulanis.
