Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor, has said banditry as well as all the other security related problems in Nigeria would not end because the government has decided to politicized security issues in the country.
Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike’s media aide said the governor had said by politicizing insecurity, the APC Government sky rocketed the security troubled states in Nigeria to an unprecedented level of banditry that may unfortunately not end anytime soon. The governor stated, during the time of insecurity issues in Rivers state in 2015, he ran to the FG for help but instead of rendering said help, the FG disregarded his call and term it as politics out of hatred for the State and desire to see the state remain ungovernable.
“They didn’t send special forces to Rivers as they’re sending to other states now. They refused to support me because they didn’t want the State to be governable.”
Governor Wike further explained it is tough fighting crime in situations when culprits are arrested but then “big” men in power go to Abuja to tell the Inspector General of Police(IG) and the Chief of Army Staff that those arrested are their “boys” and as such demand that they be released and escape the wrath of the proper punishment deserving to their specific offense(s).
